We try to keep our house as clean and green as possible by making homemade cleaners out of natural ingredients. Not only is it better for the environment, but it's more cost-efficient. All-Purpose Cleaner - I use this for countertops, streak-free mirrors and mopping. It only stinks for a couple minutes!
- 1 part white vinegar
- 3 parts warm water
Stovetop Cleaner - This scrubs through the greasy layer that you get from cooking. I use it on the hood of the stove too.
- Lightly spray surface with All Purpose Cleaner
- Sprinkle a few teaspoons of baking soda
- Rub/Scrub with a washable cloth
Toilet & Tub Cleaner - I am a huge Comet fan because it does a great job, but it smells terribly unhealthy. This is the best substitute that I have found:
- 1/4 c. baking soda
- 1 c. white vinegar
- Pour vinegar into toilet bowl, then pour baking soda over vinegar so that it sticks. Let sit for a few minutes, then scrub with brush and flush.
Carpet Freshener - Sprinkle carpet with a little bit of baking soda, let sit for a few hours, then vacuum.
Coffee Pot - Run a cycle of 1 cup white vinegar with 2 cups water. Follow with 2 cycles of just water (don't want vinegar-flavored coffee, ew!)
Garbage Disposal - Throw the peel of a lemon in the garbage disposal and run the cycle. Keep the rest of the lemon and treat yourself to a glass of iced tea...or scrub your wood cutting board with it to clean and disinfect.
Dishes - We use Bright Green's Auto Dish Wash Powder (available at Safeway stores): Biodegradable, made from naturally derived ingredients, with packaging made from 55% post-consumer waste.

This is an awesome list of cleaners we can all make! I really love this :)
Thanks for sharing these!! I soooo need to clean my coffee pot. I think I just might do that right now. I also may try carpet refresher on my car. My family and I took a little hour trip yesterday...as we were heading home, my little man got sick all over the back seat. We used a carpet shampooer with water and vinegar to clean everything up when we got home...now I need to get rid of that vinegar smell....ewwww!
I found your site from Hope Studios
